DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events celebrates 15 years
Since the Pittsburgh Marathon relaunched in 2009, it has become the largest sporting event in Pittsburgh with more than 40,000 participants and 300,000 spectators each year. In 15 years, the event has attracted more than 370,000 participants ranging in ages from 9 months to 90 years old. More than 100 MOVERS have participated all 15 years, including 10 Soul Survivors who have run every single Pittsburgh Marathon since 1985. The event has had a lasting positive impact on the community with a $100 million of direct economic impact in the past decade, as well as having raised more than $15 million for local and national charities. Movers in the Run for a Reason Charity Program, presented by Microsoft, are expected to raise more than $1 million for local, national and international causes Since P3R launched the Run for a Reason Charity Program in 2009, participants in the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events have raised more than $15 million for local, national and global causes. This year more than 2,400 charity MOVERS are expected to raise more than $1 million for 30+ local and national charities.
Kids of STEEL inspires a record number of schools to train for the 2022 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon Weekend of Events This year a record of 10,000 kids and 229 schools and organizations are participating in Kids of STEEL, a free P3R training program that motivates kids and their families to get moving together. Participants will complete at least 25 training miles in preparation for the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon or UPMC Health Plan / UPMC Sports Medicine Pittsburgh 5K on Saturday, May 6.
The Weekend of Events has become a weekend for all MOVERS
Race weekend truly inspires any and all to move with an event for everyone no matter their age or fitness level. For the second year in a row, participants have the opportunity to participate in the Pittsburgh Half Marathon Walking Division. New this year, the Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh Kids Marathon will offer participants and families a Sensory Inclusive™ heat. During the start of this heat, music volume will be lowered, activities will be reduced, and personal space will be increased for participants.
Wesley Kiptoo and Caroline Rotich Aim to Defend Titles at the 2023 UPMC Health Pittsburgh Half Marathon
Wesley Kiptoo and Caroline Rotich will return to the streets of Pittsburgh to defend their titles at the 2023 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon. Last year in their Pittsburgh debuts, Kiptoo and Rotich both set new event records. Click here for more info.
Local runners Nicole Hilton and Nick Wolk aim to show their hometown advantage in elite field
After winning last year’s Pittsburgh Marathon, South Fayette grad and Pittsburgher Nicole Hilton is aiming to once again take home prize money in this year’s UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon. Local runner Nick Wolk will be joining her at the start line in his marathon debut. He has won the Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race in 2021 and 2022.
