Since its first race in 1984 with just 214 runners, the Íslandsbanki Reykjavík Marathon has grown into an international event attracting around 14,000–16,000 participants each year, including thousands of visitors from abroad. Runners can choose from several distances making it accessible for both seasoned athletes and first-time participants.
