Wesley Kiptoo Eyes Fourth Straight Victory, Stephanie Bruce Returns for Third Title at the 2025 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon
PITTSBURGH – History could be made on the streets of Pittsburgh on Sunday, May 4, as Wesley Kiptoo and Stephanie Bruce return to headline the elite fields at the 2025 UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon.
“Coming back to Pittsburgh to try and win my fourth title is very important to me,” said Kiptoo. “P3R and the city have made Pittsburgh feel like a second home. I can’t wait to join everyone on the start line.”
Kiptoo, the reigning three-time champion, set the course record of 1:01:21 in 2023 and is chasing an unprecedented fourth consecutive win. Among those looking to challenge him is Andrew Bowman, the 2024 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon champion, who has the chance to become the first athlete to win both the Marathon and Half Marathon titles.
Other top contenders in the men’s race include:
- Matt Baxter (New Zealand) – 2:10:57 marathon PR, 1:02:38 half marathon best
- Chase Weaverling (USA) – 2021 EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler champion, 1:03:58 half marathon PR, and top-50 finisher at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials
Stephanie Bruce, a three-time U.S. national champion, will be aiming for her third win in Pittsburgh. The 40-year-old has a half-marathon personal best of 1:09:55 and is eager to return to a city that has become a meaningful stop on her journey.
“Pittsburgh never disappoints,” Bruce said. “The crowds, the energy, the support—even in the rain—it all makes this race one of my favorites.”
Bruce will face strong competition from:
- Everlyn Kemboi (Kenya) – Third place in 2024, recently ran a 10,000m PR of 31:24.13
- Heather Kampf (USA) – Known as the “Queen of the Road Mile,” with a 1:13:12 half marathon PR and recent marathon finish of 2:36:30
The 2025 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon and UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon will award a combined prize purse of $102,000.
Top elite athletes will be available for interviews following the Race Weekend Kickoff Press Conference on Friday, May 2 at 9:30 a.m. at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
