More than 35,000 runners will compete in the 8th edition, April 29-May 1

PITTSBURGH – P3R announced today that registration for the 8th edition of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon has officially sold out. This year’s race weekend, scheduled for April 29-May 1, will feature more than 35,000 runners from 49 states and more than 20 countries.  

“With more than 35,000 runners, 4,000 volunteers and 150,000 spectators, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon is more than just a race event – but a community-wide celebration of health and fitness,” said Patrice Matamoros, P3R CEO and race director. “Our team at P3R carefully plans every detail of every event to ensure everyone from the dedicated athletes tackling 26.2 miles to the pint-sized participants of the Sheetz Pittsburgh Toddler Trot has an incredible experience that keeps them coming back for more year after year.”

At this year’s event, P3R is rolling out the red carpet to runners from across the country to help celebrate Pittsburgh’s Bicentennial Celebration. P3R has selected  runners from across the United States to present their state as part of the Runner of Steel Delegate program. During race weekend, these VIP runners will have the opportunity to explore Pittsburgh and discover what makes Pittsburgh extraordinary and visionary.

Attracting thousands of out-of-town visitors each year, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon generated an estimated $10.2 million in direct spending and room demand of 8,450 room nights in 2015. The race also inspires community engagement with 13 neighborhood festivals on race day and more than 2,800 runners participating in the Run for a Reason Charity Program presented by Bank of America, which is expected to raise more than $2 million this year.
