Additional Race Information

Kids of STEEL sites have the option to receive their students' race numbers and shirts ahead of time so that they can distribute these items at their school/site. If your child is part of an official Kids of STEEL school/site, please check with your coordinator to see if they will be taking advantage of this option.

If your KOS school/site is not distributing items or you do not attend a KOS site, you have two options for packet pick-up.

  1. Visit the GNC Live Well Pittsburgh Health and Fitness Expo on Friday, May 4, 2018 between 11:00 AM and 8:00 PM and look for the Toyota Pittsburgh Kids Marathon booth. Click here for Expo hours and location.
  2. Visit the 5K/Kids Marathon Packet Pick Up tent in Gold Lot 4 at the corner of Mazeroski Way and West General Robinson Street (near the start line) starting at 8:00 AM.

Please note that Kids Marathon participants will not receive a race packet confirmation ticket ahead of time. Race numbers will be sorted and picked up alphabetically by last name.

Race Numbers
  • Please fill out the emergency contact information on the back of all race numbers. Pin the GREEN race number to the front of the child’s shirt. Pin the WHITE race number to the adult running/waiting with the child.
  • Adults running with a child in the Kids Marathon must wear the matching adult race number to have access to the corrals and course.

  • There are no water stops on the Kids Marathon course. Water is available in the finish line chute. Carry water with you if you need it.
Start Line Corrals
  • There will be a checkpoint to get in the corrals. Security guards have the right to inspect bags prior to entry into the corrals. Only bring what you need that day and consider not carrying any bags which may delay your entry into the corrals.
  • Only children and adults with a KIDS MARATHON race number will be permitted entry.
  • All children will receive 2 matching race numbers, even if you didn’t indicate an adult participating in the run during registration.
  • If you don’t intend on running with your child but want to wait in the corral with them, you must still wear the adult race number to access the corral.
  • If you will have a child in a baby carrier (ex. baby sling, baby wrap or backpack), you must complete a liability waiver and receive a race number for them. They will not receive a shirt, medal or goody bag. Please contact our office at kidsofsteel@p3r.org to receive the waiver prior to race day or plan time to sign a waiver at packet pick up on race day.
  • Strollers or baby joggers ARE NOT allowed into the corral area or on the race course.
Finish Line Viewing
  • If you want to watch your child from the sidewalk, remain on the north side of the Blvd. of the Allies - the same side of the street where Point Park University’s Academic Hall is located.
  • Adhere to directions provided by event staff and race day security during the event. Their goal is to keep all runners safe and to unite children with their adults in the designated areas.

First heat starts at 9:30 AM. Click here to see the 2018 Toyota Pittsburgh Kids Marathon race heats.  Kids of STEEL sites are assigned to specific heat times. Please look for these race heat signs when you arrive.
Please allow extra time on race morning to find your heat.

Please note, we follow guidelines from the Department of Public Safety. Heat start times are subject to change. Please plan on arriving downtown as early as possible to ensure you have time to adjust to any time changes.

Children running with an adult
If your child arrives in the finish line before you, volunteers will keep them in the finish line chute until you meet up with them.

Waiting Area 1 is on the left side of the chute after you cross the finish line. Waiting Area 2 is all the way down the chute on the right just before you exit family reunion. If you don’t see your child,  please find one of our volunteers with the Mickey Mouse ears and light blue vests.

Once you have your child, proceed through the finish line chute. Volunteers will check to make sure you have a matching number or ‘Kid Claim’ ticket before leaving the Family Reunion Area. If you have more than one child with you, have the ‘Kid Claim’ number available for each child for volunteers to check.

Children running without an adult
Detach the ‘Kid Claim’ tag from your child’s race number before the race. The Family Reunion Area is at the finish area on the Blvd. of the Allies. Volunteers will check race numbers to make sure they match before leaving the Family Reunion Area.  If you have more than one child with you, have the ‘Kid Claim’ number available for each child for volunteers to check.

YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY.  PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH OUR CHILD CLAIM  PROCESSES AND LISTEN TO P3R STAFF/VOLUNTEERS FOR INSTRUCTIONS.
