New campaign “Power of Giving” recognizes & celebrates inspirational runner stories for 9th event edition
PITTSBURGH - P3R will celebrate a noteworthy milestone during the 2017 DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon season: breaking the $10 million mark raised for charity. Each year the Pittsburgh Marathon Charity Program presented by Bank of America inspires runners to run for a greater good while raising funds for a cause close to their hearts. In 2017, charity runners are expected to raise more than $1.5 million - pushing the total raised since 2009 to well over the $10 million mark.
“We aren’t stopping at $10 million,” said P3R CEO Patrice Matamoros. “This year we are calling on the charity and running community to keep the positive momentum going throughout the 2017 season. We are proud of what we have accomplished since 2009 and look forward to growing the program and continuing to reach new milestones.”
In anticipation of this milestone, P3R kicked off a new campaign “Power of Giving” to recognize all the inspiring reasons why participants choose to dedicate their run to their favorite causes. Charity runners are encouraged to submit their stories at http://bit.ly/ShareYourStoryPGH with the campaign hashtag #PowerOfGiving. Stories will be shared via Pittsburgh Marathon social channels to inspire and motivate other runners.
P3R will celebrate the milestone with special events during the 2017 training season starting with the annual Kick-off Training Run. Other events include a pre-race pasta party on Sunday, April 30 for charity partners. Runners on race day will also pass through the “Celebratory Mile” on the course, which will recognize charity runner achievement.
More than 3,000 charity runners are expected to participate in the 9th DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events, scheduled for May 5-7, 2017. Last year’s runners raised more than $1.6 million for 110 local and national charities. More than 3,000 charity runners participating across all of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events inspired more than 24,000 charity donations for 110 local and national charities.
